Artist and Instructor Hayley Quentin

By:
Brentwood Art Center

Born in Los Angeles, Hayley studied at Otis College of Art and Design, where she received a BFA with Honors. She spent the next 7 years living and working in Europe, mainly in the UK and France. In 2016 Hayley returned to Los Angeles, where she currently resides and works, both as faculty at the Brentwood Art Center and as a practicing artist at her studio in Inglewood.

From jewel-like watercolors to larger-than-life-size portraiture, Hayley repurposes traditional art making processes to explore her vision of male representation in contemporary art.

"My artistic voice is inherently a part of me and how I see the world. In a way it feels easy: if you’re an artist you do the things you like, and you’re never going to be ‘done’. In other ways it is very difficult: technique, subject, medium, concept – I’m trying to find the moment where a piece becomes more than the sum of its parts."

"I strongly believe anyone can learn to draw and make art. In my classes I break down complex subjects with simple, reproducible skills firmly rooted in observation. This means really learning to see, and this is a large part of my approach to teaching art. Ultimately, my teaching style involves lots of individualized time with each student using a positive yet constructive approach. I want students to know that a “mistake” is just an opportunity to learn, to trust in their new skills, and not to be afraid to try something new."

Hayley is currently teaching Begininng Drawing, Intermediate/Advanced Drawing, Figure Drawing and a Teen Drawing and Painting Class. Please see our schedule for more information!
